ABOUT

Kat Parsons is an award-winning singer-songwriter whose new EP, The Sweetness Is Now, marks her first new music in thirteen years.

After touring across four continents, building a devoted following as an independent artist, and releasing four critically acclaimed records, Parsons stepped away from full-time music to get married, raise three children, and build a different kind of life. She never stopped writing.

The songs on The Sweetness Is Now grew out of the years in between. They explore parenthood, enduring love, grief, and the beauty that can be found even in life's hardest seasons.

THE STORY BEHIND THE SWEETNESS THE NOW

Earlier in her career, Parsons toured across four continents, building a devoted following as an independent artist. Then she made a choice that surprised even her.

She stopped organizing her life around music.

Not because she loved it less, but because she wanted other things just as much.

She wanted to build a family. Parenthood changed her in ways she never expected. It reshaped her understanding of love, her relationship with time, and the questions she found herself writing about. Around the same time, she became a couples therapist, spending her days listening to people's deepest hopes, heartbreaks, and attempts to love each other well.

These weren't the songs she would have written in her twenties or thirties. They were shaped by the years that came in between.

She kept writing, but without another album in mind.

The songs became a way of making sense of the enormous, ordinary experiences that filled those years: raising children, navigating loss, falling more deeply in love, and noticing the sweetness that exists alongside life's hardest moments.

Those songs eventually became The Sweetness Is Now, a collection shaped less by ambition than by experience.

  • Being visible: Making music in midlife, perimenopause, and taking up space without needing to be younger or more polished

  • The things women carry privately: Fertility, choosing whether to have children, pregnancy loss, motherhood, judgment and the experiences we don't always talk about - and writing “Fly Away” and “Maybe It’s Time”

  • Loving motherhood AND finding parenting hard: The exhaustion, joy, anxiety, humor and fear of getting it wrong

  • Loving people you can't protect: What parenthood teaches us about love, control and letting go (“Let My Love”)

  • Songwriting and couples therapy: Two very different ways of paying attention to the things people have trouble saying

  • Making room for more than one dream: Returning to recording after building a very different life
