Hi, I'm Kat.
I grew up in a family where music wasn't something we did—it was part of everyday life. My father was an opera singer, my mother a singer-songwriter, and musicians filled nearly every branch of our family tree. Long before I ever stepped onto a stage, music was already teaching me how to pay attention.
For much of my twenties and thirties, I built a life as an independent singer-songwriter, performing across the United States and around the world. I loved the adventure of touring, the connection of live shows, and the privilege of watching songs find their way into other people's lives.
Then another chapter began.
I got married, became a mother of three, and found another calling in the anti-human trafficking world, and now as a couples therapist. Helping people navigate love, loss, conflict, and connection has deepened my understanding of what it means to be human—and, inevitably, it has deepened my songwriting too.
The years between albums weren't years away from music. They were years spent living the very experiences that would eventually find their way into these songs.
The Sweetness Is Now is my first new collection of music in many years. These songs explore parenthood, grief, joy, enduring love, and what it means to build a meaningful life.
Whether I'm sitting at a piano in an intimate listening room or writing at my kitchen table after the kids have gone to bed, I hope these songs help people laugh, reflect, cry a little, and feel connected.
I now live on Maryland's Eastern Shore with my husband and our three children, where music, family, and my work as a couples therapist continue to shape one another in ways I never could have imagined.
