I'm sharing this song early with my email list.
Want to share “Parenthood” with someone? I would love that!

Meet “Parenthood.”
Thanks for joining me. I'm really glad you're here.
I wrote this song when my kids were toddlers, when I was still stunned by the sheer intensity of raising three small humans.
I never expected to have twins. That was quite a shock.
Since then, I've learned all kinds of fascinating things about twins. For example, apparently twins can have two different fathers, which makes sense because that's about how many people it takes to take care of multiple children.
What surprised me most about becoming a parent was that there seemed to be absolutely no moderation.
I could love these tiny people more than I knew it was possible to love anyone, and also count the minutes until bedtime.
One of my favorite encapsulations of parenthood happened when my little chunk-of-love son took my face in his hands, gave me a huge kiss...
and then accidentally head-butted me.
That was the song I wanted to write.
Not a song about how beautiful parenthood is, or how hard it is. Both.
The other songs on this record are more reflective and go to some tender places. But it's August. I thought we'd start with the fun, slightly ridiculous one.
I'll let the song tell you the rest.
I hope it makes you laugh.
The Sweetness Is Now, my first new music in 13 years, comes out September 25. I'll be sharing more of the stories behind these songs as we get closer.
Thanks for being here.
With love,
Kat
